Downtown Grimsby, in collaboration with the Town of Grimsby and the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, is inviting residents and visitors to experience a family-friendly construction-themed StoryWalk running from July 2 to August 28, 2026, throughout the downtown core. People of all ages can explore downtown by following the pages of the storybook Mighty, Mighty Construction Site displayed at participating businesses.		 

A StoryWalk is an interactive outdoor reading experience that places pages from a book along a walking route. Pages will be displayed in storefront windows, allowing people to read the story while exploring local businesses and enjoying all that the area offers during the Downtown Reimagined project. 	 

As Downtown Grimsby undergoes an exciting transformation, the StoryWalk offers a creative way for families to engage with the revitalization taking place around them, discover local businesses, and experience firsthand the community's vision for a vibrant and welcoming downtown. 

“We want people to know that downtown is still open and safe to visit,” said Mark Wood, Chair of Downtown Grimsby. “Summer is the perfect time to get outside and explore, and we’d love to see families out reading the StoryWalk and spending some time downtown.”  	 

This year’s featured story is Mighty, Mighty Construction Site, written by Sherri Duskey Rinker and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld, an internationally best-selling team known for their engaging and imaginative children’s books. The story follows a hardworking crew of construction vehicles as they team up to tackle a big job, showing the importance of cooperation, perseverance, and helping each other along the way.	 

The construction theme complements the Town's Downtown Reimagined project, which was developed through community visioning, technical studies, and detailed design planning. The work is being carried out in two phases, with underground infrastructure improvements completed first, followed by upgrades within the downtown core through 2027. 

Construction of Phase 1 kicked off the week of June 22, 2026, while work gets underway, downtown businesses will remain open and ready to welcome visitors. Construction on Phase 1 is expected to continue until the end of October 2026. 	 

“Supporting our downtown businesses throughout construction remains one of our top priorities,” said Brandon Wartman, Director of Public Works at the Town of Grimsby. “We know construction can create challenges, which is why we're committed to finding creative ways to keep people coming downtown. Initiatives like the StoryWalk help showcase everything our businesses have to offer while encouraging residents and visitors to continue shopping, dining and exploring in our downtown core."

As you read through the StoryWalk, take time to enjoy summertime downtown. Cool off with an iced drink, grab a bite on a patio, browse local shops, or treat the kids to something special along the route. It’s a great opportunity to make a day of your visit while supporting the businesses that keep Downtown Grimsby vibrant.

Downtown Grimsby, in collaboration with the Town of Grimsby and the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, is inviting residents and visitors to experience a family-friendly construction-themed StoryWalk running from July 2 to August 28, 2026 throughout the downtown core.

Downtown Grimsby Launches Construction-Themed StoryWalk During Downtown Reimagined Project 

Downtown Grimsby, in partnership with the Town of Grimsby and the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, is inviting residents and visitors to shop local this summer through the launch of the Construction Passport program—a new loyalty initiative that rewards customers for supporting downtown businesses during the Downtown Reimagined project. Running from July 13 to September 30, 2026, participants can collect stamps for the chance to win one of eight prizes, including a $1,000 grand prize. 

The Construction Passport program is designed to encourage continued visits to downtown while construction is underway. Customers receive one stamp from each participating business with a qualifying purchase of $20 or more before taxes. Once eight different stamps are collected, participants can complete their contact information and drop off their passport at any participating business for a chance to win. There is no limit to the number of passports that can be submitted throughout the campaign, giving participants multiple opportunities to enter the prize draw. 

Available prizes include a $1,000 grand prize, three $200 prizes, and four $25 prizes, all awarded as gift cards to participating downtown businesses. 

"Downtown is open during construction, and there's still lots to do while you're here," said Mark Wood, Chair of Downtown Grimsby. "We hope people come downtown, try somewhere new, visit their favourite spots, and fill those passports up."  

Phase 1 of the Downtown Reimagined project, which includes a critical water infrastructure renewal, is currently underway and is expected to continue until the end of October 2026. Throughout construction, Downtown Grimsby remains open, with work carefully phased to maintain access for businesses, residents and visitors while minimizing disruption. 

"We're committed to maintaining safe access to downtown throughout construction and helping businesses remain vibrant during the project," said Brandon Wartman, Director of Public Works. "Every visit, every purchase, and every passport stamp helps support local businesses while important infrastructure improvements move forward." 

Pick up a Construction Passport from any participating business and start turning everyday stops into chances to win. With over 30 participating locations, customers can collect stamps while shopping, dining, getting services, or even running errands.

Downtown Grimsby Launches Construction Passport Program to Reward Shopping Local During Downtown Reimagined Project

Downtown Grimsby, in collaboration with the Garden City Comedy Festival, is bringing live stand-up comedy to Coronation Park with the return of Comedy Nights in Grimsby, a free, family-friendly outdoor entertainment series taking place every Wednesday in August beginning at 7:00 p.m.  

Hosted by comedian David Green and produced by the Garden City Comedy Festival, Comedy Nights transforms Coronation Park into an open-air comedy venue featuring stand-up performances from some of Canada's top comedians and rising talent.  

“Comedy Nights is all about creating a space where the community can come together and enjoy great live comedy right here in Grimsby,” said host David Green. “We’ve got an incredible lineup this year, and I’m excited to help bring big laughs to Coronation Park all month long.”  

A returning summer favourite, Comedy Nights have become a highlight of Grimsby's seasonal event lineup, offering high-quality entertainment that's appropriate and hilarious for all. In the event of inclement weather, performances will be moved indoors to Station 1 Coffeehouse at 28 Main St E, with an announcement posted via social media (@DowntownGrimsby) approximately an hour before the show to ensure the laughs continue rain or shine. 

While the Downtown Reimagined Project is ongoing, Downtown Grimsby remains open, with construction carefully phased to maintain access for businesses, residents and visitors while minimizing disruption. Gather with family and friends to enjoy an evening of laughter in the downtown core. 

“Comedy Nights is the perfect reason to head downtown and see what’s going on,” said Mark Wood, Chair of Downtown Grimsby. “Yes, the construction is happening but downtown is definitely still open. So please, come on down, support our local businesses, and join us for a few laughs in the park every Wednesday this August.” 

Founded in 2018, the Garden City Comedy Festival is a celebration of all things funny in Niagara. Each spring, the festival brings together some of Canada's funniest comedians, highlighted by its signature Gala Night at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre. Beyond the annual festival, the organization produces comedy events throughout the year, delivering premier live entertainment across the Niagara region. The Garden City Comedy Festival also provides a platform for both established and emerging comedians to showcase their talent while supporting local organizations through fundraising initiatives.

This is a great place. Their patio looks very clean and inviting. Food was fantastic; their pizza was outstanding! Our server, Sydney, was friendly and efficient. Half-price wine on Wednesday was a bonus! Will definitely go back! They have lots of large TVs all over the place, so I imagine this is the place to be to watch any sporting event!!!

We moved to Grimsby a couple of years ago, and I've always driven by this place but never stopped in.  I should have just kept on driving.  Arrived around 7:00 pm, looking to kill some time get a late night snack.  Ordered a soda water and some chicken wings.  I've worked in enough bars and restaurants to know that a pound of wings, especially when the place is practically empty, shouldn't take more than 12-15 minutes.  45 minutes later, still no wings.  I had somewhere else I needed to be, so I left and told the staff to just give the wings to someone else.  As I was leaving, the server brought the bagged up wings to the parking lot.  When I got home I opened them, to not only find that they were still uncooked (soggy skin), but I also weighed them and the scale indicated this was only half a pound of wings (250 g). 🙄 You want good wings, hot and fresh?  Try Amici's Pizza, The Judge and Jester or even The Butcher and Banker in Beamsville, which you can drive to in less time than it takes for these folks to figure out how a fryer works.  Won't be back, even if it were free.

It speaks volumes about your business that a legitimate concern is met with such a condescending tone.  A successful business owner would know the difference between valuing patrons, and being patronizing.  We both know that a 45 minute wait for a 10-minute menu item indicates a complete breakdown in service, not a simple “mistake”.  Especially when I was sitting at the bar in full view of the server, who should have had the wherewithal to notice my order was taking longer than usual, instead of socializing.  Regarding the serving weight, a 50% loss from raw to cooked indicates either poor sourcing or incorrect portioning before the wings even hit the fryer, which speaks to the quality and value of the food you’re serving.  A 20-25% loss would be typical, and we both know it.  Also, during the pandemic, the entire food service industry mastered crispy wing delivery, so blaming the packaging for raw meat shows a lack of concern for food quality and customer health.  You should be professional enough to admit that when I said I was leaving, your staff rushed the order resulting in it being uncooked.  My experience in restaurants, and other lines of business, is that customers may not always be right, but should always be respected. Clearly, your establishment has much lower standards.

Rickochez in Grimsby is a solid choice for a good meal. The fish tacos and burgers are both great, and the fries are also very good. We do wish they wouldn't put a filler in their burger patties. The parking is plentiful and the crowd is friendly. Unfortunately, the lack of gluten-free options is a downside and limits who can dine here. Overall, it's a good place to visit.

This place was really busy around 4:00 in the afternoon on a Friday in July.
A lot of locals,
Our waitress / bartender was really hopping, doing a great job considering it was just her keeping all the patrons happy.
Although a number of beers that were listed on the menu were not available on draft anymore and weren't crossed off the menu, there was still a selection available.
Hamburger was excellent.
Chicken burger was served with no mayo / no sauce. Dry.
I did ask for a side of mayo and server did get it for me although she was really busy and it took 20 minutes and my food was cold by then.
Inside is very dark, outside patio quite nice.
We would come here again.

We sat in a booth by bar.. atmosphere local bar we ordered wings, garlic bead Caesar salad chips and salsa .. we will definitely be back loved the atmosphere … and food was great !  The Caesar salad had fresh bacon abd they didn’t skimp on the bacon delicious .. wings were tasty and big garlic bread is huge definitely a share. Chips and salsa .. gresh the chips was fresh bill was 80 it was delicious
